The Assessing and Preventing Triggers of Responsive Behaviours micro-credential focuses on the identification, assessment and prevention of triggers of responsive behaviours in older adults with dementia. Students will learn to identify the signs and symptoms that lead to responsive behaviours. By engaging in a variety of practice activities and scenarios, students will recognize different types of triggers (e.g., environmental, physical). They will learn why, when and how to use different care planning assessment tools and how to engage effectively with family and caregivers.

  • IMPORTANT - PROGRAM SUSPENSION NOTICE - EFFECTIVE MARCH 2024 - This micro-credential is part of the SUSPENDED“ Managing Responsive Behaviours in Older Adults ” stacked micro-credential. The stacked micro-credential is only available to students who completed one or more of these courses before March 1, 2024. Students who successfully completed all three micro-credentials can apply to receive the “ Managing Responsive Behaviours in Older Adults ” stacked micro-credential.

  • This micro-credential has been developed for individuals (e.g. Social Service Workers, Personal Support Workers, Activation/Recreation Coordinators and others) working with older adults in residential or community care settings.

    MICRO-CREDENTIAL FEATURES:

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) including Grade 12 English (C or U) and Grade 11 Math (C, M or U) OR;
  • Grade 12 equivalency certificate achieved through College academic upgrading OR;
  • Mature Student Status (19 years of age or older) with Grade 12 English (C or U) and Grade 11 Math (C, M or U)
    Recommended: Post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree in a health or social services field.

    PROGRAM COMPETENCIES:

    Upon completion of this Micro-credential, students will be equipped to:

  • Apply planning assessment tools to prevent triggering responsive behaviours in older adults with dementia.
