Program Description

English to French translation is a skill which must be acquired through training. Each course will help you learn necessary translation skills for professional purposes in the workplace.

Certificate Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
    OR
    Grade 12 equivalency certificate achieved through College academic upgrading
    OR
    Mature Student Status (19 years of age or older)

  • French Proficiency Certificate with exceptional skills in written French
  • You must maintain an overall average of 60% or a GPA of 2.0 in order to graduate
  • A minimum of 25% of courses must be completed through Durham College.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be equipped to:

  • Correctly translate workplace English-language documents into French, utilizing the appropriate tone and vocabulary to suit the translation purpose
  • Differentiate between casual and professional language use, and select these appropriately for translation projects
  • Identify idiomatic language use and use or replace it as appropriate to the given purpose of the translation
