Program Description

The first portion of this micro-credential consists of the following safety certifications: Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry in Construction and Emergency First Aid/CPR. Upon passing each one of these certifications, students would then complete a short course which is focused on the safe handling and storage of construction materials, as well as on self-care techniques such as dressing appropriately for outdoor work on a construction site, meeting jobsite expectations, and effective teamwork. Students will also complete WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety Awareness.

Note:

A digital badge will be awarded upon successful completion of this Micro-credential. After successful completion of all courses in the Program of Study you must notify us via email at pplbadges@durhamcollege.ca. Once verified, a digital badge will be issued to you.

Certificate Requirements

  • Students must be 19 years of age or older or have OSSD / GED
  • You must maintain an overall average of 60% or a GPA of 2.0 in order to graduate
  • A minimum of 25% of courses must be completed through Durham College.

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be equipped to:

  • Select, maintain and safely use hand tools as well as portable and stationery power tools when performing basic constructions tasks.
  • Select a range of materials for appropriate application to building construction and renovation projects.
  • Contribute to the completion of building projects in accordance with industry standards and instructions from supervisors.

Career Options

Potential career and industry options may include:

  • Graduates will have the minimum requirements necessary for employment on a Construction Jobsite. Certain construction companies may have additional requirements.
