Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The following are the documents required for ECE Resource Consulting placements:
- ECE Resource Consulting Field Placement Application Form
- Entry Immunization Form
- Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (valid within six months from the start of the placement term – see the PPL website for specific date ranges)
- Standard First Aid & Level C CPR (Note: Online and hybrid (online & in-class) courses will only be accepted if WSIB-approved.)
- Student Declaration of Understanding
- Informed Consent for the Release of Personal Information
- Online Training Modules (accessed via PPL’s DC Connect Application Modules):
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information (WHMIS) Module Completion Certificate
- Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities (AODA) Module Completion Certificate
- Workplace Violence and Harassment Prevention Module Completion Certificate
- Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps Module Completion Certificate
Placements in this program must be completed in person.
Students in all placement programs will receive permission to register (via email from the Placement Officer) only when all of their documentation has been reviewed and approved by both PPL and Synergy Gateway. If applicable, final grades from the previous semester’s prerequisite courses must also be posted. This process takes time, and your patience is appreciated. Grades are typically not available until within the week of the start date of the following term.
Yes. Students are required to research and secure their own placements in this program.
Students wishing to attend a public or Catholic school setting must follow their school board's placement procedure. Do not contact individual schools unless directed by the school board in your area.
Durham District School Board & Durham Catholic District School Board:
Students are not permitted to contact individual schools or the school board offices. Students must provide the information requested on the Professional and Part-time Learning Field Placement Application Form (found in the DC Connect Pre-Placement Paperwork Module), indicating their preferences.
The Professional and Part-time Learning Placement Officer will contact the board and provide each student with placement host details once paperwork is approved and a location has been confirmed.
Students must be supervised by someone with the educational qualifications of a Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT).
How many hours must I complete for placement?
- ECRC Field Placement, Level 1 – 105 hours
- ECRC Field Placement, Level 2 – 150 hours
Students must complete all required hours and submit their final evaluation on or before the published course end date. Failure to do so will result in an unsatisfactory grade for the field placement course.
- Field Placement Level 1 (hosted by Seneca College) must be completed within the Province of Ontario.
- Field Placement Level 2 (hosted by Conestoga College) must be completed within the Province of Ontario.
Students are encouraged to complete both field placements at the same host agency if possible.
Please contact the host college for more information about Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR).
- Placement Level 1 (hosted by Seneca College) is not eligible for PLAR.
- Placement Level 2 (hosted by Conestoga College) is not eligible for PLAR.
