The Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG) has announced a new model for transcript production where court transcripts will be produced and certified by independent, authorized court transcriptionists. A list of authorized court transcriptionists will be available to the public, and all persons ordering transcripts of court proceedings must select a transcriptionist exclusively from this registry.
This exciting new career offers many opportunities including self-employment, the choice to earn income from home, the flexibility of choosing the amount of work you wish to accept and options to partner or work with other authorized persons.
Upon successful completion of the course (requiring a 98% pass on final exam), the student will have met the transcript qualification standards as set out by the Ministry of the Attorney General and will be eligible to become an authorized court transcriptionist in accordance with and pursuant to the Attorney General's Approval and Authorization made under Ontario Regulation 158/03.
Students will learn transcription procedures required to produce certified transcripts from all court jurisdictions according to ministry standards set by legislation, regulation, policy and practice directions.
Students MUST register for Court Transcription course using full legal names. Court Transcription ADVANCED - will be offered in WINTER (January - April) semester only.
All students require their own computer in order to participate in this class. Student success requires: • 50 words per minute (minimum) and MUST increase greatly over the span of the course • Proficient in MS Office and specifically MS Word. (ie. headers, footers, Marcos, formatting pagination) • Critical listening skills • Comfortable with the English language (both written and verbal)
• Laptop/Desktop PC Required - Windows– based word processor application installed on the laptop (MS-DOS word processors such as Word Perfect 5.1 will NOT work) • Reliable Internet connection • A second screen is strongly recommended. • A sound card • Students are should ensure they have a working camera on their computer for use in this online synchronous environment. • Headset (use a reliable set - can often be any normal headset/earbuds) • Foot pedal (required to control recordings - VEC Infinity USB Foot Control- Foot pedal can be purchased on Amazon • Liberty Court Player V2.7 (LCP is available for Windows and Mac) • Free download of the most recent/update version of Liberty Court Player
