Understanding the Early Years Act (Micro-credential)

The Understanding the Early Year Act micro-credential focuses on legislative and policy requirements for the Early Years sector and the Code of
Ethics and Standards of the College of Early Child Educators. Students analyze the relationship between legislation, policy, funding mechanisms, and administrative practices to develop informed organizational policies.

    MICRO-CREDENTIAL FEATURES:

  • Classes are scheduled online once per week from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm via Zoom
  • One additional hour each week is allotted for online self-directed work
  • Eligible for funding through Ontario ECE Grants
  • This micro-credential has been developed for individuals with previous work experience.

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Registered Early Childhood Educator, in Good Standing, with the College of Early Childhood Educators in Ontario

    COURSE COMPETENCIES:

    Upon completion of this Micro-credential, students will be equipped to:

  • Explain the implementation strategies to support quality care in Durham Region.
  • Identify opportunities for professional development and growth, pedagogical reflection, and community networking within the Durham Region early learning community.
  • Explain the various Special Needs Resourcing supports available to childcare agencies.
  • Examine the role of the Consolidated Municipal Service Manager (CMSM) and current service planning goals to support a quality child care system.
  • Explain the significance of accessing early learning funding programs for sustaining the operations of licensed child care and early years agencies in Durham Region.
