This introductory online course will serve as the theoretical basis and prerequisite for all other courses in the Mental Health Nursing Certificate Program. The focus will be on current trends in mental health, therapeutic relationships with mental health clients, introduction to mental health law, basic knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, mental status assessments, health teaching and care planning. Pharmacological treatments will also be discussed for each major diagnostic category.
Tuition includes a $87 non-tax deductible fee. Student must have Proof of current RN/RPN Certificate of Competence. Recent Durham College and UOIT nursing grads may be eligible to apply for credit transfer for this course. Note: Students must sign on to DC Connect at http://www.durhamcollege.ca/connect using their student number and password to access this course. If you have not created a password, the default password is your date of birth in the format MMDDYY. (e.g. if your date of birth is December 31, 1985 then your password is 123185). You will not be able to access the course until the start date. Please allow 24 hours after registration for the system to update.
