Interviewing and Counselling Skills I

This course provides the students with an introduction to the basic theory and skills that are necessary for effective intentional interviewing and counselling. A micro-skills approach will be taken; students will be introduced to each of the individual communication units one at a time and have opportunities to incorporate them into practice. The focus will be on the counselling skills that comprise the basic listening sequence (BLS), an essential component in the development of a strong therapeutic alliance.
