Diversity and Indigenous Peoples

This course provides students with an introductory overview of diverse populations, faiths, and cultures. Basic concepts such as ethnicity, race, cultural values, and discrimination will be explored. Students will also examine the various societal factors that contribute to stereotyping within various communities and how inequities can become interconnected across race, gender, and class. Laws which influence the protection or discrimination of diverse communities will also be explored. Students will be provided introductory knowledge about Indigenous Peoples. Topics will include history, socio-economic issues, beliefs, treaties, residential schools, reconciliation, and the criminal justice system.
