This is the first of several narrative units in the Level 3 Signing Naturally Series designed to help students developed essential skills needed to tell a story successfully. Students will learn ways of using role shift to help enhance the story; the importance of maintaining spatial agreement when using role shift; to sequence classifiers in order to fully describe what happened; to time their reactions to coincide with falls, trips or other types of mishaps; and to elaborate on the story by giving descriptions, sharing thoughts, and giving reasons.
ASL 5 is also the first of several translation units designed to help students develop good interpretations of written information. Specific grammar structures are introduced to help students organize the essential information to show the relationship and relevance of the information presented. Because of the concise nature of each fact, students need to learn how to analyze the fact to understand clearly what the fact means. Students learn to explain, rephrase, demonstrate, or draw conclusions to clearly present the fact in ASL structures minimizing English influence. Factual information is divided into three categories: percentages/fractions, listing/ranking, comparisons, illustrating a fact.
Tuition includes a $3 non-tax deductible fee.
