Drapery and Home Furnishings

Come and discover the rewards of your own creativity as you expand your knowledge and skills while you design and construct various drapery and home décor items. Save yourself hundreds of dollars in labour costs when you produce your own custom made, professionally finished home décor and window treatments. Students will learn how to measure, cut, sew and finish items such as a fringed cushion with a lapped closure, a piped cushion with a zipper closure, a duvet cover, dust skirt, and a variety of drapery styles including lined curtains, box / kick pleated, grommet and tab topped. Students will learn how to properly measure windows and calculate fabric requirements. Students will choose a drapery treatment or home décor item for an individual major project. By the end of the course, you will have completed a unique drapery or home décor item.

Notes:

Tuition includes a $10 non-tax deductible fee.

You will need a sewing machine of your own, in good repair in order to complete the required home assignments. The college will provide a machine during class if necessary. Please bring a notebook to the first class. Other supplies required for the course will be discussed then. There will be additional costs depending on your choices for the various supplies.
