Ceramic Tiling

You will learn how to successfully install a basic floor, shower and backsplash. The following topics will be covered:

1) shop and tool safety;

2) surface preparation, including plywood, ditra and cement board;

3) types, differences and costs of various tiles, i.e. ceramic, porcelain and glass;

4) types of thinsets and adhesives and their different applications;

5) types of grout and spacing of tiles;

6) layout and design to create different visual effects; and

7) various cutting techniques.

This course will be a mix of theory and practical.

Notes:

Students will meet in a classroom setting first to review the safety equipment, including safety glasses and boots which are mandatory in all shop/lab classes. Students are to bring a tape measure and pencil to class.
