Program Description

This certificate is designed to help participants develop office skills that are essential in today's competitive office environment. You will study the Windows operating system and an overview of the Microsoft Office Suite including; Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Certificate Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) including Grade 12 English (C or U) and Grade 11 Math (C, M or U)
    OR
    Grade 12 equivalency certificate achieved through College academic upgrading
    OR
    Mature Student Status (19 years of age or older) with Grade 12 English (C or U) and Grade 11 Math (C, M or U)

  • You must maintain an overall average of 60% or a GPA of 2.0 in order to graduate
  • A minimum of 25% of courses must be completed through Durham College.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be equipped to:

  • Use Microsoft Access to create, query, analyse, and generate reports from databases
  • Use Microsoft Excel to create, analyse, and manipulate data in complex electronic workbooks and charts
  • Use Microsoft PowerPoint to create engaging and informative presentations that illustrate good design principles by incorporating appropriate graphic, animated, and text elements
  • Use Microsoft Word to generate text and graphic documents that meet a variety of professional requirements
  • Integrate the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products to generate complex business documents and products
  • Use Microsoft Outlook to generate and receive electronic mail that meet a variety of professional requirements

Graduates may work in a variety of positions as the software is used extensively in most areas of business.
