Durham College Recognition of Achievement

Program Description

The Home Improvement program is designed for those interested in gaining a broad knowledge of essential home improvement skills for personal interest. This program provides students the opportunity to gain skills in carpentry, basic electrical, plumbing, and the option of the installation of tile floors and walls or crown moulding. Students who complete all of the courses will be awarded a Recognition of Achievement.

Certificate Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
    Mature Student Status (19 years of age or older)

  • You must maintain an overall average of 60% or a GPA of 2.0 in order to graduate
  • A minimum of 25% of courses must be completed through Durham College.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be equipped to:

  • Apply scientific knowledge to all required tasks at a level acceptable in the areas of basic electrical, carpentry, plumbing, hardwood floor, tile and crown moulding installation
  • Communicate effectively, using the appropriate scientific and/or technical terminology
  • Complete all practical requirements successfully and at a level required according to the codes for each profession
  • Utilize appropriate tools and technology for each specific trade
  • Identify and adhere to all health and safety requirements of the shops and equipment
