Program Description

You will develop your photographic skills as you learn the technical and creative aspects of using a digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera. You will learn what camera settings to use in order to capture a wide variety of subjects. The program is designed to provide professional training in order to enhance career opportunities.

Students must bring their own Digital SLR camera.

Certificate Requirements

  • Mature Student Status (19 years of age or older)
  • A minimum of 25% of courses must be completed through Durham College.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be equipped to:

  • Demonstrate the proper use and functionality of the settings of their personal Digital SLR camera
  • Articulate and demonstrate the creative aspects that contribute to the creation of a good photograph
  • Describe and apply the photographic strategies involved in the preparation of a photo shoot
  • Develop a business plan for owning and operating a studio including all of the aspect of the photography business
