*NEW - Transition to Practice for Nurses

The course Transition to Practice for Nurses prepares learners for nursing practice in the Ontario health care context. Using a learner-centred approach, opportunities are provided for learners to synthesize prior knowledge with new learning through critical inquiry, reflection, application of evidence-informed knowledge and practices, case-based learning, and engagement with simulated patient care situations in a range of health care settings. Guided by legislative and regulatory requirements related to the nursing scope of practice in Ontario, learners will demonstrate professional behaviours that support respectful, competent, inclusive and ethical relational practice.

Notes:

The minimum passing grade for this course is 65%.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1) Model College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Practice Standards to meet legislative and regulatory requirements and provide accountability to the client, employer, colleagues, and the public.
2) Establish therapeutic relationships and environments that support respectful, inclusive, and culturally safe relational practice.
3) Provide evidence-informed professional, safe, competent, and ethical care across the lifespan to optimize safety and health outcomes.
4) Engage in critical inquiry and reflective practice to respond to complex issues and challenges impacting persons receiving care and/or care providers and systems.
5) Collaborate with clients, colleagues, and members of the healthcare community to promote safety and well-being of persons receiving care and teams providing care/services.
