Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) Requirements for Faculty of Social and Community Services Programs Students must have a current Vulnerable Sector Check (current to six months from the date of issue) in order to attend placement. The information below applies to Faculty of Social and Community Services students only, based on individual program requirements. Students that live in Durham Region Students that reside in Durham Region must apply online for their Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) through the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) website NOTE: You are not permitted to apply in person. INSTRUCTIONS: Retrieve your Volunteer/Student Placement Letter. DRPS will not process your VSC Application without a completed volunteer/student placement letter (see the link below to obtain your letter). You will be required to pay a $20.00 Application fee.To retrieve and personalize your Volunteer/Student Placement Letter before loading it to the VSC application, please click here. Apply for your VSC online: Please click on the following link to complete your VSC application: Durham Regional Police (drps.ca). STUDENTS THAT LIVE OUTSIDE OF DURHAM REGION (NOT INCLUDING TORONTO) Students who live outside Durham Region are responsible for following their local police jurisdiction processes for applying for a VSC. Some police agencies/detachments may require you to apply online or in-person. If your police agency is the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), please contact your Student Advisor or emailSCS@durhamcollege.ca for assistance. If your local police service is not OPP and requires you to provide a volunteer/student placement letter, please click here to access and customize your letter to submit with your VSC application. STUDENTS LIVING IN THE CITY OF TORONTO If your postal code begins with “M” you must apply for your Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) through the Toronto Police Services (TPS). For faster service, it is recommended that you apply for your VSC online through the TPS website. INSTRUCTIONS: To begin this process, you must first register for your TPS account. Upon completion of your TPS account registration, please email SCS@durhamcollege.ca (from your DC Mail account only) to request your VSC Organization Code (this code is needed in order to apply for your VSC). Please include in your email your full name, program name, and student number We will respond to you by email, providing you with your VSC Organization Code and further instructions that will allow you to complete your VSC application.
