Durham College (DC) is proud to partner with the Town of Whitby on an exciting new opportunity for students: the Whitby Fire and Emergency Services Inclusivity Excellence Award. Two awards will be awarded annually to racialized students from Whitby who have been accepted into the Firefighter- Pre-Service Education and Training or Fire Prevention and Technology programs. The awards will cover full tuition, not including textbooks, equipment and ancillary services. The award is available to Whitby residents who graduate from a Whitby high school. Timeline January 2025 start Firefighter – Pre-Service Education and Training (compressed) program September 3, 2024 – Applications Open November 1, 2024 – Applications Close December 2, 2024 – Successful recipients contacted September 2025 start Firefighter – Pre-Service Education and Training program Fire Prevention and Technology program February 3, 2025 – Applications Open April 1, 2025 – Applications Close May 1, 2025 – Successful recipients contacted Eligibility and Selection Criteria Students are eligible to apply if they meet the following criteria: Are a new student enrolled in the Firefighter- Pre-Service Education and Training program OR the Fire Prevention and Technology program for January or September 2025. Self-identify as a racialized person. Are Whitby residents and graduated from a Whitby high school. Do I need to apply to Durham College before I can apply for the Whitby Fire and Emergency Services Inclusivity Excellence Award? Yes, you need to be accepted to Durham College for January 2025 in the Firefighter- Pre-Service Education and Training (compressed) program. If you meet the criteria and are enrolled, you have until November 1, 2024 to apply. What happens if I accept my offer to Durham College but do not receive the award?
