Durham College (DC) is proud to partner with the Town of Whitby on an exciting new opportunity for students: the Whitby Fire and Emergency Services Inclusivity Excellence Award. Two awards will be awarded annually to racialized or economically challenged students who have been accepted into the Firefighter- Pre-Service Education and Training (regular and compressed stream) or Fire Prevention and Technology programs. The award covers first-semester tuition. It does not cover program fees, textbooks, equipment, ancillary fees, or living expenses. The award is available to Durham Region residents who graduated from a Durham Region high school, with preference given to residents who graduated from a Whitby high school. Self-identify as a racialized person OR are economically challenged. Are Durham Region residents who graduated from a Durham Region high school. Do I need to apply to Durham College before I can apply for the Whitby Fire and Emergency Services Inclusivity Excellence Award? Yes, you need to be accepted to Durham College for January 2026 in the Firefighter – Pre-Service Education and Training program. If you meet the criteria and are enrolled, you have until November 1, 2025, to apply. What happens if I accept my offer to Durham College but do not receive the award? There are many opportunities for financial support for Durham College students. You can learn more about them on our financial aid web page. How are award winners selected? Applications are adjudicated by the Faculty of Social and Community Services in collaboration with the Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. Several factors are taken into consideration including eligibility criteria and application information.
