Collective Bargaining

Durham College is one of 24 publicly funded colleges in Ontario, all regulated under the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) Act. Because they fall under the same legislation, unionized employee groups across these colleges are represented by common collective agreements.

The College Employer Council (CEC) serves as the government-mandated bargaining agent for Ontario’s colleges, negotiating collective agreements on their behalf. The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) represents the employee groups covered by these agreements.

While collective agreements differ by bargaining unit in length, terms, and conditions, all are negotiated in accordance with the Colleges Collective Bargaining Act.
