DC marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women 2023

This message is sent on behalf of Don Lovisa, president.

Today, Durham College (DC) joins communities across Canada to mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Together, we honour the 14 women killed at Polytechnique Montréal in 1989 and reflect on all the women whose lives have been taken by or affected by gender-based violence.

In recognition of this important day, the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is hosting memorial ceremonies for students and employees at both campuses.

  • Oshawa campus, Centre for Innovation and Research, room 102 at 10 a.m.
  • Whitby campus, front entrance atrium at 2 p.m.

Please join us to respect the lives lost and learn about ending gender-based violence. As a sign of respect, the flags at both campuses have been lowered to half-mast.

At DC, we are committed to creating a safe campus community, free of all forms of violence. I encourage all members of the DC community to take a moment to reflect, listen to survivors of gender-based violence, and speak out against harmful behaviours of any kind. And, if you need support, pleasereach out.

Let us all continue to commit to working together to make our campus a better place for all and end gender-based violence in our communities.
