Embrace Equity on International Women’s Day

This message is sent on behalf of Don Lovisa, president, Durham College.

Today, Durham College (DC) acknowledges International Women’s Day (IWD) – an opportunity to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and an important reminder of the progress we have made toward gender equality.

This year’s IWD campaign theme is #EmbraceEquity and promoting women’s participation and advancement in workplaces and society. Every day, women across our campuses, in classrooms, labs, research centres, service spaces and more, are making a difference. We recognize the important contributions women make in our community and around the world, and we also know that more work needs to be done to ensure all women have the opportunities and access to reach their full potential.

At DC, we are committed to listening and taking action to promote gender parity. We all play a role in this work and in removing barriers by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment – free from bias, stereotypes and discrimination – that empowers all women to experience advancement and success.

Today, join me in celebrating the accomplishments of women and recommitting ourselves to the work that still needs to be done to achieve gender equality.
