A slate of engaging speakers will be featured in a series of virtual events from January 23 to 25 to mark DC’s fifth annual Social Justice Week.

Social justice is a concept rooted in the belief that everyone deserves equity in the distribution of wealth, opportunities and privileges within a society. Topics related to social justice intersect with nearly every field of study, industry and community.

Join our virtual sessions to hear from our speakers who will share both their expertise and lived experience as they discuss important topics that resonate in our broader community including homelessness, mental health and addictions, the intersection between journalism and social justice, immigrant experiences in securing professional employment and the duty to report in an Indigenous context.

For more information about Social Justice Week, a schedule of speakers and links to Zoom, visit durhamcollege.ca/social-justice. No registration required, simply attend the sessions.

This year, Social Justice Week coincides with News Literacy Week and you’re invited to join DC journalism students and librarian Trish Johns-Wilson for Fact or Fiction: Shining Light on News Sources in a World of Information Overload on January 25 at 1 p.m. in the Library Instructional Lab, LIB 132/134.

The session will explore how you can tell misinformation from real news in newsfeeds, social media posts, AI and traditional news sources. Register for this event.
