Today, aspiring chefs, farmers, food scientists and hospitality professionals are being trained at Durham College’s (DC) Centre for Food (CFF) and School of Science & Engineering Technology (SET) in diverse programs that touch on all aspects of the food and agriculture sectors.
From November 5 to 8, horticulture and science students and DC employees travelled to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair to share DC’s story of food. They showcased the amazing work being done in the fields, labs and kitchens of the CFF and SET, like the creation of DC’s Harvest Salsa Brava hot sauce, a partnership with No. 7 Mexican Hot Sauce.
They also presented to more than 600 high school students, sharing the many food-related careers that await students in one of DC’s CFF or SET programs. To demonstrate this, each student went home with a bottle of DC Ketchup, along with the knowledge that there are 24 different careers that go into making the Ketchup, many of which students train for at DC.
