Durham College is seeking experienced and motivated registered Occupational Therapists who share our commitment to quality and student success. The School of Health & Community Services requires part-time clinical educators for the OTA/PTA program. The successful candidate must be in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).  This role commences January 2016 and includes 7.5-15 hours weekly for 14 weeks with opportunity for contract renewal. Ideal candidates will have clinical expertise and familiarity working with students.

Candidates must be available to teach Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The responsibilities of Durham College educators include, but are not limited to:

• Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
• Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;

• Working effectively with students, the program team and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

The responsibilities of educators in clinical settings include but are not limited to:

• Work within established agency partners to provide OT service to clients based on a needs assessment; this includes client assessment, treatment plan development, treatment delegation and supervision to groups of OTA students.
• Act as the main point of clinical and daily operational contact in the agency.  Liaise between the College and the agency as necessary.
• Work with groups of up to 6 students providing clinical fieldwork supervision and oversee treatment provision by the students in a community agency setting, in compliance with COTO Standards for working with students and support personnel.
• Provide mentoring, clinical teaching and evaluation of OTA/PTA competencies for each student assigned in the fieldwork setting.

• Ideal candidates will have clinical expertise and familiarity working with students. 

The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:

1. An undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy.  Relevant Master’s degree preferred; must be a registered Occupational Therapist in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.  A Bachelor of Education or Master of Education is an asset.
2. Three to five years of recent and relevant work experience.
3. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated application of adult educational principles and teaching methodologies.
4. Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
5. Committed to life-long learning.
6. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
7. Track record in meeting deadlines.
8. Self-motivated and independent worker who also functions well in a team environment.
9. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders including students, other faculty members, support staff, administrators, other departments within the College and with external partners.
10. Understanding of the Ontario community college system.

REQUIRES PART-TIME PROFESSOR FOR INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS COURSE

Durham College is seeking experienced and motivated professionals who share our commitment to quality and student success. The School of Science & Engineering Technology requires a part-time Professor in the Industrial Controls course for the Electronics Engineering Technology program.

Part-Time Professors teach up to 6 hours per week with varied schedules Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 am – 7:00 pm.

The Industrial Controls course is designed to educate the student in the theory of operation and practical implementation of industrial control systems and micro PLC systems. Industrial electrical symbols, ladder diagrams, relays, motor starters, industrial sensors, micro PLC’s and motor control circuits will be covered in detail. The laboratory component of this course provides practical experience with numerous control devices that can be directly related to industrial control systems found in industry. 

The responsibilities of Durham College Professors include, but are not limited to:

1. Creating a positive learning environment that accommodate students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and individual learning styles;
2. Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
3. Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, managing and posting of grades.
4. Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
5. Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
6. Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
7. Working effectively with students, the program team.

The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:

1. The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience using Automation Studio software and LogixPro 500 in an industrial control application.  Controls reflect power circuits, sensing and actuating devices, PLC and Lab Volt equipment; 
2. Bachelor of Science and/or Bachelor of Engineering; CofQ and/or Red Seal License required for trades based subjects;
3. Bachelor of Education is an asset;
4. Three years of recent and relevant work experience;
5. Experience creating an engaging and dynamic learning environment;
6. Experience with curriculum development;
7. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a comprehensive understanding of adult educational principles and teaching methodologies;
8. Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills;
9. Excellent organizational and time management skills;
10. Self-motivated and independent worker who also functions well in a team environment;
11. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders including students, other faculty members, support staff, administrators, other departments within the College and with external partners;
12. Understanding of the Ontario community college system;
13. Demonstrated knowledge and competency in the following areas: 
    1. Diversity in instructional design and delivery
    2. Accommodation of a variety of learning styles
    3. Effective evaluation of student learning
    4. Use of technology to support student learning and management of grades

Preference will be given to candidates with relevant educational credentials and work/teaching experience. A demonstrated track record of the aforementioned professor responsibilities is a significant asset.
