Durham College seeks an exceptional leader for its School of Business, IT and Management. The successful incumbent will work collaboratively with the Academic Leadership Team in achieving the College’s strategic vision, mission and academic directions. Reporting to the Vice-President, Academic, the Executive Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer for the School of Business, IT and Management and is accountable for contributing to the academic well-being and growth of the School, through the provision of academic leadership, supervision and direction to faculty, coordinators, support staff and students. The incumbent will be responsible for leading faculty and staff of the School in planning, securing resources, implementing and evaluating activities related to academic operations, ensuring service to students, fiscal management and facility oversight. They will ensure that the program objectives and MTCU program standards are achieved through effective supervision of teaching and learning processes. The Executive Dean is accountable for the planning, development, maintenance and ongoing review of the School’s full-time postsecondary programs and the development of new programs to reflect market changes and the employment needs of the industry. The incumbent will represent the School both internally to the College and externally to the various stakeholders/partners. They will establish positive relationships with industry and business representatives and participate in the College’s student recruitment and job placement initiatives. The Executive Dean will also participate and/or take the lead on college-wide initiatives and committees. The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree, with a Ph.D. being an asset. They will have a minimum of seven years of significant leadership experience and expertise within the school program areas. They will have a demonstrated track record of excellence in management, leadership and developing, leading and maintaining partnerships internally, with other educational institutions, and the broader local, national and international community. The incumbent will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and faculty development. They will possess strong administrative skills, including a proven capacity to handle considerable detail, set goals and achieve objectives, to cope with a demanding and rewarding workload, and to remain balanced, calm and focused while under pressure. The incumbent will have outstanding communication, negotiation and collaboration skills, with the ability to deal with a wide range of individuals with diverse backgrounds and needs. Finally, the successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, strong advocacy skills to support students, faculty and staff, as well as familiarity with the changing landscape in the business/IT sector and post-secondary education.
