Christmas Date: December 25 Event Category: Days of Awareness Details: Observed and celebrated on December 25th, every year, Christmas is a Christian event celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. The birth of Jesus Christ signified the incarnation of God himself on earth, something that had never happened before. Christmas is the most widely celebrated holiday in the western world and involves family gatherings, feasting, light displays, themed music, worship, and gift giving. Christmas has also become associated with Saint Nicholas of Myra, a bishop who was renowned for his habit of secret gift-giving. This led to the cultural archetype of the American Santa Claus and the British Father Christmas. Durham College (DC) is committed to providing an inclusive and respectful learning and working environment.
