Consent Awareness Week at DC!

Durham College observes Consent Awareness Week annually on the third week of September. Consent means there must be mutual, voluntary and ongoing agreement between all parties involved to engage in sexual activity, each time. Consent Awareness Week is a reminder to all DC community members, that you have the right to be safe and free from all forms of violence.

Research by the Courage to Act Project revealed that there is an increase of sexual violence incidents being reported by post-secondary students within the first 6 weeks of a new academic year. Consent Awareness week was proclaimed by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario (OLA), Bill 18 in response to this troubling fact.

All sexual activity without consent is a criminal offence, regardless of age, and carries serious penalties. It’s essential to understand and respect these laws to ensure everyone’s safety and well-being. To learn more about Canadian Consent to Sexual Activity click here.
