National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

Date:
December 6
Event Category:

The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is a significant day in Canada, observed annually on December 6. It commemorates the tragedy that occurred on December 6, 1989, when 14 women were murdered at Ecole Polytechnique Montreal by a gunman who targeted them because of their gender, for being a woman. This day serves as a reminder that gender-based violence continues to be a prevalent issue affecting women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals across Canada and throughout the world. Durham College hosts an annual memorial event to recognize this important day and serve as a call to action. Please take time today to remember, reflect and take meaningful actions to end violence against women.
