Venue
In-person Oshawa Campus
Address:
2000 Simcoe St. N.
Oshawa, Ontario Canada

The Suswaaning Endaajig: First Peoples Indigenous Centre (FPIC) invites the campus community to join us for a Reawakening and Meet and Greet with Elder Gerard Sagassige.

In October 2011, the Aboriginal Student Centre opened its doors and was gifted the name Suswaaning Endaajig, meaning “a nest away from home,” by Elder Gerard Sagassige.

On this special day, Elder Gerard will lead a ceremonial smudge and share the story of FPIC, its purpose, and the significance of its name.

With guest speakers who will also share a few words in Anishinaabemowin, offering language teachings and a reflection on the importance of language revitalization within the FPIC community.

Followed by Interactive Teachings & Reflections, guests are encouraged to participate in the following reflection exercises:

– Feather Reflection: Take a moment to reflect on your hopes for the FPIC. Write or draw on a feather outline to share what you would like to see from FPIC and how you envision its growth. Your contributions will help shape our shared journey.

– Medicine Wheel Reflection: Engage with the medicine wheel by contributing your thoughts in each quadrant, representing cultural teachings, community involvement, academic support, and personal growth. Help shape FPIC’s future in these areas.

Bannock and soup will be served during the event, providing a chance to enjoy a meal while connecting with others.

This event is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about FPIC, contribute to its ongoing journey and meet members of our campus community. We hope to see you there!

Your input during the reflections will play a meaningful role in the development of FPIC’s future initiatives. All are welcome!
