Address:

We invite you to join us in honoring Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM.

This significant event is hosted by the First Peoples Indigenous Centre (FPIC) and aims to recognize and remember the survivors of residential schools, while reflecting on the continuing journey of truth and reconciliation in Canada.

This event will take place in CIR 102, Suswaaning Endaajig (FPIC), and the Naanaagide’endamowin Courtyard, where we will come together for a series of meaningful activities, teachings, and reflections.

Highlights include a hand drum welcome song and teachings from Kathy McLeod-Beaver, and powerful poetry from Ojibwe and Cree spoken word poet Sarah Lewis, followed by a reflective ceremony where participants will tie orange bows near the Weeping Willow tree to symbolize our shared commitment to remembrance and reconciliation.

Jennie Town an Indigenous Community member and Knowledge Keeper will also offer teachings about traditional teas and the significance of berries during the refreshments portion of the event, deepening our connection to the land and its nourishing gifts.

This is an important opportunity to reflect, heal, and support the path of reconciliation. We look forward to sharing this day of reflection and healing with you.
