In 2026, Canada acknowledges Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries. The theme represents the continuity, resilience, and progress made by contributions of Black Canadians through history. We celebrate the legacy of Black Canadians, whose leadership, creativity, and resilience have shaped our past, influence our present, and inspire future generations. At the Library, we celebrate the work of notable Black scholars. See published works by these scholars in our research guide. There is also a wide variety of films and documentaries from different streaming platforms that celebrate Black stories: Kanopy National Film Board of Canada Other ways to learn more and celebrate Black History Month The Faculty of Health Sciences, along with the OEDI, is hosting a screening of Silent Voices. Attend Black History Month events hosted or sponsored by the City of Oshawa, including a Black History Month flag raising at City Hall on Thursday, February 5, as well as “Together We Rise: Durham Region Black History Legacy Celebration,” a free community celebration for Black History Month held in Ajax on Tuesday, February 3. The city is also partnering with Trent University to host a community gathering on Monday, February 23.
