20 Amp Soundchild to perform at Durham College

Local band features college alumnus

OSHAWA, Ont. –  At Durham College the student experience comes first and what happens outside the classroom is just as important as what happens inside. On Wednesday, February 15 the college will put that theory to the test when 20 Amp Soundchild, an up-and-coming alternative band from Pickering, Ont., performs live on campus.

Taking place at both the Oshawa and Whitby campuses, the event will feature a performance for students, faculty and staff by Durham College alumnus from the Electrician – Construction and Maintenance and Electrician – Industrial (Apprenticeship) program, David Hughes (base), Ryan Walker (drums), Nick Viera (guitar/vocalist) and Justin Lant (guitar).

The band is currently enjoying great success with its first music video, Lights Go Out, which was
filmed at the college’s Oshawa campus on December 18 and currently Number 19 on MuchMusic’s Fresh Videos list. The video is about bullying, with the main character depicted as an extraterrestrial being to portray his sense of alienation.

A performance will take place in Recognition Square in the Gordon Willey building at the Oshawa campus at noon and in the student lounge at the Whitby campus at 1 p.m.
