Best in class at Durham College honoured at annual scholarship ceremony

Durham College recognized 176 students for their significant academic accomplishments during the college’s annual scholarship ceremony held on November 18.

Durham College deans, faculty and staff members and numerous individual, organizational and corporate donors joined Durham College President Don Lovisa last month as the college recognized its students for their significant academic accomplishments during the annual scholarship ceremony on November 18.

“To our students, on behalf of the entire Durham College family, I extend our sincere congratulations on receiving one of our prestigious scholarships,” said Lovisa. “Whether you start a business, invent the next big thing or run for office, your time at Durham College and resulting diploma will be the foundation for where you choose to go next and I congratulate each of you for pursuing your studies with such energy and enthusiasm. Well done!”

The event began with a donor/student meet-and-greet session, giving students a chance to formally meet their donors and thank them for their support, followed by the official ceremony which saw the presentation of the awards. The ceremony also included remarks from Lovisa and Judy Robinson, vice- president, Academic and featured Margaret Greenley, vice-president of Student Affairs, as master of ceremonies.

“Durham College is fortunate to receive financial support for our students from individuals, businesses, organizations and corporations in addition to families and groups who honour loved ones through memorial awards,” added Lovisa. “I extend a sincere thank you to all of our donors for your investment in our college and in our students.”

The event saw scholarships and bursaries valued at $130,000 presented to 176 deserving students from the college’s Oshawa and Whitby campuses and Uxbridge location.

“To the award winners – your hard work and commitment to your studies is remarkable,” said Robinson. “I know that through your perseverance and dedication to learning, that each of you is on the path to great future success.”
