September 3, 2008 More than 3,000 new students arriving on campus September 2 OSHAWA, Ont. – With the new academic year just days away, Durham College is preparing to welcome more than 3,000 first-year students to campus with Orientation Week 2008, beginning September 2. The week-long event allows new students at the Oshawa and Whitby campuses to participate in a series of exciting activities and events designed to familiarize them with the college’s faculty and staff, explore the unique campuses and learn more about program expectations, student services and campus clubs. Orientation Week 2008 events include: Campus Extravaganza, featuring a barbecue, music, carnival games and a clubs and service fair, Tuesday, September 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Staff-to-Student Mentoring Social, September 2 from 4 to 5 p.m.; Captain Jack’s Off-shore Shack for off-campus students, featuring live music, student artwork and a nacho bar, September 2 from 4 to 7 p.m.; Double feature Movie-on-the-Lawn, September 2 at dusk; Glow-in-the-Dark Capture the Shark (Capture the Flag), Wednesday, September 3 at dusk; Bedouin Soundclash concert, Thursday, September 4 at 8 p.m.; Part-time Job Fair, Friday, September 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Shinerama Shine Day including a fundraising car wash and shoeshine for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Saturday, September 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Durham College Varsity Soccer Games, September 6, beginning at 1 p.m.; and Aloha Blast, South Village Courtyard, September 6, beginning at 4 p.m. Who: First-year Durham College students; and Durham College faculty and staff.
