April 7, 2011
OSHAWA, Ont. – Durham College President Don Lovisa will be joined by community and support agencies; field placement hosts; program advisory committee members; and college staff and faculty on Thursday, April 14 as the college officially launches three new support-oriented programs for September 2011.
The event will feature presentations on the new Accessibility Co-ordination, Developmental Services Worker and Victimology programs, including opportunities for community involvement and support, by Susan Sproul, dean of the School of Health & Community Services and Stephanie Ball, dean of the School of Justice & Emergency Services.
The new Accessibility Co-ordination graduate certificate program was developed in response to the need for individuals with specialized skills in regulatory compliance and accessibility standards; Developmental Services Worker is a two-year diploma program that teaches the skills required to care and advocate for individuals with disabilities; and the Victimology program is designed to give individuals with related experience and education the specialized knowledge and skills required to provide a variety of services to victims and their families.
