The Centennial Colts won the 35th annual David Stewart Tip-Off Tournament with a dominating 79-45 victory over Durham College in the finals.

The official start to the college basketball season has arrived as the 35th annual Durham College David Stewart Tip-off Tournament is scheduled for October 14-15 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

Eight of the top teams from Ontario and Quebec will be competing in this two-day tournament. The field will consist of St. Lawrence College (Kingston, Ont.), Centennial College (Scarborough, Ont.), Fanshawe College (London, Ont.), Loyalist College (Belleville, Ont.), Vanier College (Montreal, Quebec), George Brown College (Toronto, Ont.), John Abbott College (Montreal, QC.) and the host Durham College (Oshawa, Ont.).

Four games will take place throughout the afternoon on Friday, October 14 starting at 2 p.m. The teams will then be split up into a two brackets (winners/losers) for action on Saturday. The championship final is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 15.

For the first time in 13 years, Durham will enter the tournament as the defending champions as they defeated Fanshawe 82-67 in last year’s finals. The Lord first action will be against the Loyalist Lancers on Friday at 8 p.m.

Friday, October 14
Game one: Centennial vs. George Brown (2 p.m.)
Game two: Fanshawe vs. John Abbott (4 p.m.)
Game three: Vanier vs. St. Lawrence (6 p.m.)
Game four: Durham vs. Loyalist (8 p.m.)

Saturday, October 15
Consolation semi-final #1 – Loser game #1 vs. Loser game #2 (9 a.m.)
Consolation semi-final #2 – Loser game #3 vs. Loser game #4 (11 a.m.)
Semi-final #1 – Winner game #1 vs. Winner game #2 (1 p.m.)
Semi-final #2 – Winner game #3 vs. Winner game #4 (3 p.m.)
Consolation Final (5 p.m.)
Championship Final (7 p.m.)
