DC student-athletes earn national awards

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) recently announced the national scholar award recipients for the 2010/11 season and ten Durham College student-athletes received the honour.

The recipients from Durham College included:

Erin Emery, Basketball
Jessica Newton, Basketball
Odette Stephens, Basketball
Morgan Kelly, Soccer
Kenesha Stinchcombe-Brown, Soccer
Shannon Lucas, Soccer
Kourtney Cyr, Volleyball
Kerry Fotherby, Volleyball

The national scholar award is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of CCAA student-athletes. To achieve this honour, a student-athlete must achieve honours standing at their institution in the current academic year.

From last year’s 109 CCAA member-institutions, 752 students were awarded the prestigious honour in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.

Since the inception of this award in 2004, 84 Durham College athletes have earned this prestigious award.

2004-05 – 11 student-athletes
2005-06 – 13 student-athletes
2006-07 – 6 student-athletes
2007-08 – 7 student-athletes
2008-09 – 27 student-athletes
2009-10 – 10 student-athletes
2010-11 – 10 student-athletes
