DC women’s golf team ranked number one in Canada

The Durham College women’s golf team enters the 2012 season as the number one ranked team in Canada released yesterday by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

The Lords have won the past two national championships and will be looking for the three-peat in October as Durham College is hosting the 2012 PING CCAA national golf championship at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club. The major event will be taking place from October 16-19, 2012.

This year’s squad will look a little different as 2010-11 Durham College athlete of the year Kayleigh Kraemer has graduated, leaving Tiffany Albath as the lone member returning to the team. Albath will be joined by Alexandra Down, who makes her college debut in 2012.

The men’s team also enters the season nationally ranked as they sit in the seventh position. The men’s team won the bronze medal at the OCAA golf championship in 2011.

Returning to the Lords line-up this year will be veteran and captain David Lang. The Keswick native was a member of the 2011 CCAA All-Canadian team as he finished in fourth place at the national championship.

The Lords first tournament of the season is on Monday, September 17 as they head to Peterborough for the Fleming Invitational.

The DC Open at Lakeridge Links is scheduled for Friday, September 28.

CCAA rankings are available online at www.ccaa.ca.
