Lords go for gold at Provincial Championship

The Durham College men’s volleyball team will be aiming for gold this weekend at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Provincial Championship which will take place in North Bay, Ontario from February 23-25.

The championship will kick-off with the OCAA awards banquet on Thursday, February 23 at 9 a.m. followed by quarter-final action. The championship will wrap up on Saturday, February 25 with the gold medal match scheduled to take place at 5 p.m.

The Lords will be going up against the nationally ranked and hosting Nipissing Lakers in the quarter-finals. First serve is at 6 p.m.

The Lords last podium finish at the OCAA championship was back in 2005-06, where they won the bronze medal. Durham’s last OCAA title came in 1996, when the Lords defeated Humber in the gold medal match. Nipissing has never won a medal at the OCAA Championship.

This season, Durham had a 15-5 conference record and beat the Fanshawe Falcons 3-1 in their qualifying match to advance to the championship. Nipissing advanced to the finals after finishing in a tie for top spot in the West Region with the Humber Hawks. Both teams had 17-1 conference records.
