Women’s volleyball named OCAA team of the week

The Durham College women’s volleyball team has been named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Team of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 25.

The Cambrian Golden Shield had just two regular season matches over the previous two seasons, but that didn’t faze the Lords as they came back from one set down to defeat the reigning OCAA silver medallists 3-1. Leah Saar (Pickering) led the way for Durham with 11 kills.

The Durham Lords have put together a five-game winning streak, only dropping two sets in that stretch.

Head coach Shane Christopher has assembled a well-balanced offensive attack that is led by veteran setter Meghan Renwick (Brooklin, Ont.). Five players are averaging over 2.2 points per set including Allison Doris (Ajax, Ont.) and Saar who are third and fifth in conference scoring. Doris is second in aces (25) while Saar is second in kills (72).

Durham (6-1) has the opportunity to move into first place in the OCAA east region as they host the Georgian Grizzlies (5-2) on Wednesday night. Game time at the CRWC is 6 p.m.
