Orientation Week to welcome more than 4,900 first-year students

The college’s annual Orientation Week is less than a week away and Durham College is excited to welcome more than 4,900 first-year students to its Oshawa and Whitby campuses to join in the fun.

The weeklong campus celebration will begin at the Oshawa campus at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4 with Program Orientation, which gives students an opportunity to meet faculty and fellow students while gaining invaluable program information. Students also receive a free orientation T-shirt, which will act as their ticket to the First-Year Street Party, which starts at 11:30 a.m. in the bus loop at the Oshawa campus.

On September 5, students will also enjoy a Welcome Barbecue at the Whitby campus hosted by the Student Association.

Other events include movie-on-the-Lawn featuring 21 Jump Street, the annual Campus Cup soccer games between the Durham Lords and UOIT Ridgebacks, First Blast, the Part-time Job Fair, the always-popular CampusFest Concert featuring well-known DJ Avicii, Shinerama Shine Day and more.

Orientation Week events are designed to acquaint new students with the college’s experienced faculty and staff and vibrant campuses, in addition to providing opportunities for students to learn about program expectations, student services and clubs while making new friends.
