Spring open house welcomes potential students

Never has it been so easy to choose Durham College!

On March 31, the college held its annual spring open house, offering potential students a glimpse into a future at Durham College by providing them with an opportunity to gain more insight about their educational and career choices from the people who know best: Durham College students and faculty.

The event kicked off at both Oshawa and Whitby campuses at 10 a.m. and wrapped up at 2 p.m. Attendees had the chance to explore the college’s numerous services such as career services, financial aid and admissions, as well as tour its state-of-the-art facilities. Student ambassadors and experienced faculty members provided walking tours of campus and tours showcased the beautiful campus grounds as well as new and renovated buildings.

“The day gives potential applicants to Durham College the opportunity to come on campus and speak with our knowledgeable faculty, staff and students to make an informed decision about their post-secondary education,” said Michelle Theophille Kennedy, admissions and recruitment officer at the college. “Current students and faculty members answered program-related questions and conducted lab tours to ensure visitors were fully informed about the curriculum, placements, job opportunities and the student experience.” Guests also had the opportunity to sit in on presentations and meet the college president, vice-president, Academic and the dean/principal of the Whitby campus.

Fun activities including Passports to Success gave students the chance to win an iPad by visiting different stations and getting a sticker for their passports. At the end of the day, the passports were submitted into a draw. Potential students also had an opportunity to win a tuition certificate valued at $2,400 by filling out the online event survey.
