Durham College named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers

Durham College was named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers in a special editorial supplement published by the Globe and Mail on November 22. Recognition that emphasizes what faculty and staff already know – Durham College is a great place to work.

In a special editorial supplement published by the Globe and Mail on November 22, Durham College was named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers, as part of an annual competition organized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers to recognize businesses in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) that are leading their industries in offering exceptional places to work.

“I’m pleased to see a respected media outlet such as the Globe and Mail as well as the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers recognize what our faculty and staff already know – that Durham College is a wonderful place to work,” said Don Lovisa, president of Durham College.

Any company with its head office or principal place of business in the GTA can enter the competition, which is in its sixth year, regardless of its size or whether or not it operates in the private or public sector.

The editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers then evaluate each entry based on physical workplace including company perks such as an onsite gym or lounge; work atmosphere and social including overall culture and organized company events; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management including performance review, recognition and awards; training and skills development; and community involvement.

In particular, Durham College was recognized for its efforts in helping employees prepare for retirement; providing maternity top up for new mothers and parental leave top up for new fathers and adoptive parents; superior vacation benefits; employee access to personal paid days; tuition subsidies for employees; and academic scholarships for employees’ children.
