Minister Milloy and President Lovisa to serve pancake breakfast to Durham College students

Event will feature meet and greet with minister to kick off 2010-2011 academic year

OSHAWA, Ont. – Wanting to help get the post-secondary year off to a great start, the honourable John Milloy, minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, will join hundreds of Durham College students, President Don Lovisa and other college representatives at the college’s Oshawa campus on Thursday, September 9.

The event will feature Minister Milloy, President Lovisa, The Student Association (SA) Vice-president of College Affairs Melanie Brooks and members of the college’s leadership team serving up a free pancake breakfast and conversation to welcome students to the upcoming year. In addition, student reporters and media will be given an opportunity to speak directly to the minister during a question and answer period following breakfast.

The college, which is in the middle of Orientation Week 2010 featuring events including Campus Extravaganza; Campus Cup; CampusFest Concert ’10; and Shine the City, will welcome more than 7,300 students to campus this month. In addition, it is moving ahead with the continuing construction of its new Student Services building and Whitby campus expansion and several recently announced industry-focused research projects through its Office of Research Services and Innovation.
