Students gain an understanding of the need for professional standards in emergency communications and how they impact public safety, responder safety and resource allocation. APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator is a basic emergency communications course designed by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO). In this course, taught by a certified APCO trainer, students learn the basic skills required of an emergency telecommunicator. This is a PASS or FAIL course. Upon successful completion (PASS), students will be eligible to receive certification from APCO Institute. Successful completion means 1) attaining a mark of 80 per cent on the final exam (Test #1); 2) receiving a passing grade on all class assignments, and; 3) meeting minimum attendance requirements* as set out by APCO. *Student must be present for 90% (38 hours) of class hours.
