This theory course enlightens the Dental Hygiene student in the study of microorganisms; fungal, bacterial and viral by discussing the microbes' structures, behaviors, and interactions with the host in health and disease. Topics include how the body defends itself against potential and actual diseases and the control and destruction of microbes. Student will also be introduced to the microbes of the oral cavity, development of oral biofilm and the role of microbes causing dental caries and periodontal disease.
