This class is focused on discussing two global issues from the Canadian context, Human Trafficking and Extremism. The first half of the course will address Human Trafficking in terms of how it evolved in Canada, the role the Supreme Court has taken in striking down prostitution laws, the new laws that replaced them and the techniques used by sex traffickers (and the common case challenges that are seen in court). The second half of the course will then focus on the issue of Extremism in Canada. Issues that will be discussed will include the definition of terrorism in Canadian law, the process of radicalization, and the three major areas of Extremism (left, right and single/sole issue).
