Plant identification and knowledge are fundamental skills in the landscape and horticultural industries. This course involves the study of approx. 100-120 woody deciduous and evergreen plants hardy to at least USDA zone 5 including identification, landscape characteristics, growing conditions, typical use, common pests and diseases and other potential problems. Students will learn the proper nomenclature for all of the plants studied in the course. Plants will be studied in the classroom, on the grounds at Parkwood and on field trips when possible.
