This course is designed to develop the ability of students to intervene in conflict and crisis situations with competence and confidence. Students will learn to recognize behavioural indicators and responses of individuals in crisis. Using skills developed in this course, students will demonstrate the ability to effectively respond to a wide variety of crisis situations faced by law enforcement professionals using verbal and non-verbal non-violent intervention techniques. Students will learn to select the appropriate legal responses to these encounters. Throughout the course students will learn to develop skills, knowledge, and attitudes that will enable students to de-escalate conflict/crisis situations in an effort to increase the likelihood of a safe resolution for all parties involved.
