This course provides a thorough understanding of the legal rights and responsibilities of individuals working in the music business. Focusing on contract law, it examines the roles and objectives relevant to musicians' unions, booking agents, artist managers, live performance, recording, production, endorsements, personality rights, personal service contracts, and laws that govern and protect each. The secondary focus of Contract Law concentrates on applying the acquired knowledge in the presentation and discussion of case studies and their outcomes, as well as interpreting, negotiating, and drafting contract clauses to fully understand the significance of contracts overall, their standard and particular clauses, and their implications. This prepares students for informed navigation of legal challenges in today's ever-changing music industry.
